Conceived as a party and social outing that presents a gathering point for a vibrant and expressive local creative culture, Sunday edition in Braamfontein is back for another session on the 11th November 2018 and celebrates the city and urban culture.
Sunday edition offers a curated line up of DJ’s and live acts, a showcase of Joburg’s iconic street food scene, the freshest local streetwear labels and a selection of vintage and vinyl merchants. The event also creates a platform for the exploding local street art and publishing scene which will be represented by a revolving exhibition of street artists, printmakers and sidewalk industrialists.
We caught up with one of our favourite local artists, LUMA.
What are some of the inspirations behind LUMA, where was the project birthed from and what inspires your sound?
This project was definitely inspired by a need to become a solo artist. A place for my songs to exist. After leaving Bye Beneco my goal was to start my oen project. The sound is inspired by more electronic and synth sounds with orgabic elements. I wanted the band to cross genres and not be put in a box.
What can people expect at your live show, you have just come from Endless Daze festival, how will a smaller, more intimate show differ from that performance?
Endless Daze was a great experience, and I am so honoured I was asked to play. To a play to a new big audience like that is thrilling and great exposure. However I have always felt more comfortable performing in intimate settings. I am quite an anxious performer and its easier for me when the setting is smaller.
What is in the pipeline for LUMA?
I’m releasing a single and a music video for the song “All The While”.
I have a few shows coming up before the end of the year and then 2019 sees a south african tour as well as an over seas gig!
