Watch Jumping Back Slash’s ‘The Sirens Call’ Video ft. Nonku Phiri

Jumping Back Slash kicked off 2017 with no apologies. COTCH INTERNATIONAL had the debut release of the South African-based producer’s new Slow Oceans EP, followed up shortly after with the video drop of ‘The Siren’s Call’ featuring the unmatched vocals of Nonku Phiri, created by Amie Nowlan. The black and white short, starring cropped close up shots of Nonku, creates a perfectly married visual manifestation of JBS’ powerful track, taking the viewer-listener on a tumultuous almost-four-and-a-half-minute journey. The man is a magician: Check out the whole EP: Read more

New Track. Nonku Phiri – ‘Regrettables’

The queen returns! The PHfat collaborator emerged this April with a standout solo track entitled ‘Things We Do on the Weekend,’ but that was the last we heard of her, apart from a couple of features on various international project. She returned this weekend with ‘Regrettables’ – a sign that there’s more to come (rumour has it, in the form of an EP). Produced in collaboration with ex-PHfat homie NarchBeats, the track’s got us excited for more! Read more

New Track. Branko – ‘Let Me Go’ ft. Nonku Phiri & Mr. Carmack

Back in February, the annual Cape Town Electronic Music Festival brought all kinds of talent town from all around the globe. Aside from performing at the festival, Branko hooked up with our very own Nonku Phiri as well as LA beatmaster Mr. Carmack, couertesty of Red Bull Studios. Following up on the idea that ‘zouk and kizomba could really add a new direction to R&B and take it back to the roots in a really creative way’, the Portgese producer laid down a collaborative track for his new album entitled Atlas, resulting in ‘Let Me Go’. ‘I think we all... New Track. Malonku (Nonku Phiri + Maloon TheBoom) – ‘The Answer’

After surprising us back in April with her first solo track ‘Things We Do On The Weekend,’ produced by PHFat‘s Narch Beats, Nonku Phiri’s mesmerising vocals are back. Before the release of a full length solo project, she collaborated with Swiss beatmaker Maloon TheBoom to create ‘Malonku’. In October they started recording some material together at Red Bull Studios in Cape Town that will soon come together for the masses on an EP entitled HBBLI (‘Heart Broken B****es Love It’). For now, we’ve got a soul-fused ‘The Answer’ to whet the appetite: Read more

New Track. Nonku Phiri – ‘Things We Do On The Weekend’

The day’s finally come when we get to hear some solo material from the multi-talented Nonku Phiri aka Jung Freud – and let’s just say we’re not disappointed. Inspired by a bunch of old-school kwaito and many months of collaborations between PHfat and Nonku as Jung Freud, ‘Things We Do On The Weekend’ is the debut single from the budding artist who has contributed to so many excellent collaborations over the past months. Produced by Narch Beats, the track is ‘based on a modern day romance/relationship gone wrong, – it’s basically a narrative of a girl going through the motions... Read more

Nonku Phiri By Gabriella Achadinha.

Photographer Gabriella Achadinha shot the multi-talented Nonku Phiri for a feature in C-Heads Magazine, styled by Asher Daniel. The shoot features pieces from 2Bop, accompanied by a piece exploring the artist’s collaboration with P.H.fat, travelling, african artists and what’s to come. ‘I’d describe myself as an experimental artist I guess. I don’t like boxing myself in or following any formula, so whatever comes out, it’s organically put together based on what I’m experimenting with.‘ Check out the full feature here.
