This may have been flying around the internet for a few days, but it’s never too late for Kendrick. Undeniably one of the most explosive albums out this year, Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly has already delivered brilliant videos for ‘Alright’ and ‘King Kunta’. He’s back with visuals for his lesser celebrated jazz interlude ‘For Free? (Interlude)’ by Joe Weil & The Little Homies featuring a choir, a full band, and a rapidly multiplying Kendrick Lamar/Uncle Sam. The track’s pointing some fun at the idea of the American Dream, coming to full fruition in a satirical video overlaid with... Read more

Following on from his explosive release of To Pimp a Butterfly earlier this year; Kendrick Lamar unveiled one of the most appropriately timed political albums both locally in the US, on a global stage and relevant back here at home on SA soil. Lamar continues his tirade in the footsteps of Run The Jewels, Wu-Tang and Dev Hynes (this year alone) by addressing police brutality in the US in his video for ‘Alright’, including an additional jazz-funk intro produced by Sounwave. A week before its official release date, Kendrick Lamar has surprisingly unveiled his new album in it’s entirety – and it’s pretty much guaranteed to be one of our favourite released this year. To Pimp A Butterfly is the highly anticipated followup to 2012’s good kid, m.A.A.d city. We heard ‘i’ and the hard-hitting ‘The Blacker the Berry’ earlier this year, and ‘King Kunta’ leaked this weekend. New Track. Kendrick Lamar – ‘The Blacker The Berry’.

Expected to feature on his highly anticipated new album, Kendrick Lamar has dropped a brand new single to follow his Grammy winnings for ‘i’ – and it’s everything that ‘i’ was not. Produced by Boi-1da, and additionally by Terrace Martin, the aggressive track ‘The Blacker The Berry’ deals head-on with the kind of issues that are relevant pretty universally – it touches on the Ferguson/Staten Island dramas of last year, as well as deeper issues of social justice and belief in one’s self-worth. It’s an interesting prelude to one of the best-expected rap album in the pipeline. Read more

New Music Video. Flying Lotus ft. Kendrick Lamar – Never Catch Me.

The Flying Lotus collaboration with Kendrick Lamar is probably one of the best off the new album You’re Dead. The video was released as the only appropriate accompaniment for the track – directed by Hiro Murai, two children rise from the dead and dance their way out of the church and into the yard, jumping into a hearse and driving off. It may be a commentary on life after death, or just an dream-state experience. Either way, the track is still fresh as ever. ‘It just came about sort of naturally. He came through the crib and recorded it and... Read more
