Dope Saint Jude x DJ Barely Legal

In the third instalment of the Nando’s Music Exchange (that last year saw Little Simz hook up in Joburg with rapper Gigi Lamayne, and in 2015 saw Stormzy visit Durban to meet Muzi), DJ Barely Legal was brought to the Cape Flats to meet Dope Saint Jude, a young local artist who has been causing a stir over the last few months on an international level. The two creators bantered about the influences that power their music, ‘touching on family, finding their creative voices and connecting with like-minded peers.’ Simple, important, powerful, and inspiring content coming straight out of home: Read more

New EP. Dope Saint Jude – Reimagine

Following a recent feature on i-D Magazine and campaign H&M campaign involvement with MIA, Dope Saint Jude has released her unapologetically explosive debut EP. It’s the first comprehensive release she’s dropped, following a couple of mixtapes and singles, including a collaboration with Angel-Ho which resulted in a top slot at CTEMF earlier this year. The six-track release marries restrained antagonism with a defiant announcement that she’s carving out her space on the local hip hop scene but her horizons lie beyond these borders. New Music Video. Dope Saint Jude – Brown Baas

Dope Saint Jude – who’s as much activist as she is rapper – is back with another offering that’s intended to rub you up the wrong way. Directed by filmmaker Kyla Phil, the video for ‘Brown Baas’ is a serious exploration of the experience of race and class tensions in South Africa – an issue that’s always been prevalent, but that’s receiving an increased amount of recent artistic attention, raising fresh dialogue and new questions around privilege and cultural dominance: Read more

New Music Video. Dope Saint Jude – Keep In Touch ft. Angel-Ho.

Last week we saw Dope Saint Jude release a brand new single featuring Angel-Ho – ‘Keep in Touch’. Written as a response to the queer-vogue scene in New York, the track is undeniably local, and it’s safe to say that Angel-Ho kills it! The Chris Kets-directed video for the track dropped yesterday, illustrated by Stuart Kets. Check it out: ‘So what does ‪#‎Keepintouch‬ mean? It means NANCY. Nanzukz. Nanzubu. Go away. Eff off.’ Read more

New Track. Dope Saint Jude – ‘Keep In Touch’ ft. Angel-Ho.

Yesterday, Dope Saint Jude dropped a fresh ‘Keep In Touch’ feauturing Angel-Ho as a response to the queer-vogue scene in New York, yet littered with local references. DSJ released the following with the drop: ‘So what does ‪#‎Keepintouch‬ mean? It means NANCY. Nanzukz. Nanzubu. Go away. Eff off.’ To accompany the release and to complement it’s discussion surrounding issues of gender, race and societal roles, Chomma (Jody Brand) shot a series of ‘gender-stereotype-bending photographs’ styled by Jade Paton.
