A rush of red, a pop of pink and other classic colours to look forward to as Simon & Mary reveal their highly anticipated FEZ collaboration with Trevor Stuurman.
Simon & Mary’s FEZ blocks were purchased in the late 80’s and have been waiting for the perfect moment to appear, and with an eruption of Ndebele-mused colours our team is excited to announce that we are finally ready for our spring release this Heritage Month.
The stellar FEZ range, a lively compass of red, mint, yellow, pink, blue and black, with the signature Simon & Mary pin of distinction, would never have made it to the public without the influence of photographer and fashion influencer Trevor Stuurmans.
“We created a few samples when we first launched Simon and Mary in 2014, but never thought the market would react well to them. Fast forward 2 years later when Trevor came past the factory for a visit and spotted a sample I had made in the corner of my office.”
When one of the hats was on Trevor’s head the team instantly knew that these had to go to market.
“It took another year before we finally sat down and discussed how we would launch the range.
Trevor applied an open-minded approach when putting the lookbook ensemble together:
“The colorway of the collection was inspired by Ndebele beadwork. Somehow the shape of the Ndebele bracelets reminded me so much of the fez silhouette. It felt like a natural fit and new translation of the culture.
“In terms of the lookbook we freestyled it. We took a very organic approach. I believed so much in the product that I didn’t stress too much about shooting it and I knew with a strong team we would achieve greatness. I teamed up with The remarkable Ribanes, Kwena Baloyi and Simzphoto and sent a few outfit references to the team and then the following day we met up very early, drove around Johannesburg and found what we believed was a befitting location.”
