rocking the daisies has perhaps only one merit, other than it being a massive piss up for most ‘like-minded’ (like raced) people, its supports local bands, and a very select few at that.
WOW, what a diverse crowd demographic
Spoilt white children getting fucked.
You fucking vark.
I smell racism.
You are trying to blame white people for their choice in music..
Not all the kids that went there are “spoilt white kids”. A lot of people worked their asses off to pay for that weekend. Yes it is a piss-up. What festival isn’t?
And the “non-whites” that were there were the ones that actually dig the vibe. Only people who wanted togo/enjoy the bands/vibe would have gone. Go to any general rock/funk/metal/pop concert. See how many “non-whites” are there. Is it now “white” people’s fault that they prefer that music? It’s not an exclusivity or race deal. It’s culture, taste, musical appreciation. You can fuck right off for trying to think it’s a race deal. You backward degenerate vark.
And it’s called rocking the daisies. If they can’t find enough “non-white” rocky/funky bands, don’t come blame race.
“you backward degenerate vark” ???
I will admit, throwing the “spoilt white kids” out there was a little harsh.
nonetheless, i think i have proved my point.
Well, let’s be honest. N.SA? has a point. The crowd demographic was not diverse. It was mainly white kids attending the concert. This is not to suggest that it was a racially exclusive event, merely that the demographic of attendants reflects the social reality of our country. White = rich and black = poor (thanks to colonialism and apartheid).
Whilst that’s an insightful observation to make, i fail to see exactly how it’s a valid criticism to make of RTD…. I mean our entire society (one could even argue the entire world) is based on these hierarchical divisions. Whether it be according to “race”, “class”, “gender”, “culture”, “taste” or whatever. It’s everywhere you look, and to criticize one specific festival on this basis is too narrow minded, because it cannot be done properly without attacking the entire system on which our society is based.
Booya
I am just amazed that after a legacy like apartheid, we still don’t get that the very “taste” you speak of, in this case mainly music taste of a specific kind, that RTD’s supports, appeals to certain people, is its just another way of excluding a majority from enjoying what could be a great multicultural and richer event/music festival.
But lets face it, even if we did diversify the genres of music played at the festival to draw in a more ‘rainbow’ demographic, it would be white, black and brown kids, of the upper class strata having a piss up, the lower earning echelons would still remain ostracized.
aweh daniel!
yeah he has a point about the demographic, of course. and yes, the wake of apartheid is definitely seen here.
but lets be honest, if you had FREE rock shows everywhere, how many “non-white” people would attend?

you cant just point fingers at RTD. Its the same for: Ramfest, Synergy, Oppikoppi, earthdance, all of those.
nsa, i think you are perhaps only looking at it from one point and made up your mind. which is lame.
and saying something about diversifying the music at RTD, is plain and simply stupid. the organisers dont care about race, its about music. if they dont want shit music at the fest, they dont have to add it on to satisfy people like you. they will have other events for shit music that you can go to.
