Anything Goes: Zer021

For Anything Goes: Zer021 the organisers drew inspiration from within – the new venue that they’re moving to.

“Anything Goes has always been about inclusivity – for everyone. And while total inclusivity is great in theory, we’re not ashamed to admit that it’s difficult to achieve – but it’s something that we’re constantly striving for and that we felt like we’d have a much better chance at achieving at a place like Zer021.” – Mavuso Mbutuma, co-founder of Anything Goes.

To bring Anything Goes and Zer021 together, they decided to feature people who have become synonymous with Anything Goes, joined by one of Zer021’s most recognisable drag performers – Manila Von Teez, who will be performing on the night of the event – and they didn’t stop there.

When it comes to the DJ lineup, they’ll also be including Zer021’s owner, Roberto de Faria, who says “We pride ourselves on being an all inclusive LGBTI venue and Anything Goes will help add to an already diverse and accommodating place.”

Nash Mariah, co-founder of Anything Goes, mirrors that positive outlook, “Zer021 has been an institution in Cape Town for many years. It’s been a home for LGBTI POC – so it’s a place that we, as gay POC obviously have massive respect for. The drag scene, in particular, has been able to thrive in this venue, so we’re excited to be able to celebrate what makes it so special.”

All the images in the photoshoot were shot by Ian Engelbrecht with clothing by Nicholas Coutts.
