6 Best Winter Weekday Lunch Spots in Cape Town

1. Jason Bakery

Now dishing out of two locations (Bree Street + Loop Street), Jason Bakery is what food cravings are made of. Ridiculously decadent and full of goodness, this spot serves new items up every day, depending on seasonal flavours and the what the weather’s looking like. We highly recommend following Jason on Instagram – but be warned, you’ll be impulsively dropping by for mac ‘n cheese pies, doughnut bowls, dreamy soups and fresh juices.

2. Bitch’s Tits

Taking up resident in a garage space in Roodehek Street, the Bitch’s Tits is the daytime ego of the infamous Dog’s Bollocks. It does tasty tacos and damn good sandwiches but our favourite? Wet, cheesy fries with jalepenos, black beans and chilli. It’s everything you could want to help create that winter body. Drop into Deluxe Coffee’s headquarters in the back for coffee to go.

3. Clarke’s

If you’ve never had a Clarke’s tomato soup and toasted cheese, you’ve got the treat of your life waiting for you. Do it. There’s wifi and beer.

4. New York Bagels

Situated in the east of the city on Harrington Street, NYB is our go-to lunch-on-the go. It runs specials on Wednesday and Fridays, and with most meals coming in at under R40 its an affordable way to forget your packed lunch at home. The chicken schnitzel bagel’s our current favourite, but tbh we’ve never had a bad one. It also does great coffee, fresh juice, vegetable soup and Belgium chocolate cheesecake.

5. El Burro Taqueria

The only Mexican joint in town worth visiting is running a lunchtime winter special and you’d be a fool not to take advantage – buy three items off the menu and get the cheapest free. It’s cozy, quick, and the waitresses are a dream. Tuck into the fish taco and the pork carnitas and treat yourself to churros and free wifi.

6. Nooka

Our favourite spot for Middle Eastern-inspired fare, Nooka is tucked away next to City Varsity on Roeland Street. It’s all vegetarian, healthy, delicious and affordable. We love the shakshuka and the Nooka smoothie.
